LOVE
The word valentine speaks to us of love. And to love is to be the most like God we can be. Let me repeat that: to love is to be the most like God we can be. For God is love. The disciple who most sensed the love of God wrote to early Christians and to us, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love” (1 John 4:8) and “Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God” (4:7).

The angels’ message on that first Christmas concluded with, “…and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”
That hopeful greeting, “Peace on Earth,” is often etched on Christmas cards and sung about in carols. But frankly, it doesn’t seem to be working.

My wife is writing a book about hospitality. I think she’s qualified. Over the past fifty years, Judy has entertained over 1000 preachers and missionaries. And, I have on several occasions, without advance warning, brought homeless and hurting people to our house and we’ve kept them in our home overnight. She wasn’t thrilled about that, but she quickly made provision. Big, planned parties and small impromptu get-togethers have occurred often in our home. The Bible instructs us to, “Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” My wife has obeyed that command often over the years.
