As we enter the new year
The New Year is a time to pause, look back, look inside of self, look ahead. It is a time to think seriously about life's ultimate issues: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? It is a very good time to consider the relevance of the Christian faith to our world and to our lives.
Over the years I have hoarded in my files and notebooks a number of things that have seemed significant to a consideration of a New Year. As we approach a new year, perhaps it is time to think about life and it's meaning. Robert Browning spoke about the close of one year and the beginning of another:

This is the time of year for those who deceive the gullible with claims of psychic power to do their thing: predicting what will happen in 2016. I thought I would do a little prognostication for 2016. I guarantee these predictions to be more accurate than any you will read in the tabloids on the supermarket checkout stands!

Nine people were killed and several seriously injured in another tragic school massacre a few weeks ago. This latest carnage took place at Umpqua Community College near Roseburg, Oregon.
A witness said the gunman demanded to know each student's religion before shooting them. "The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian," she stated. "If they said, 'yes' then they were shot in the head. If they said 'no' or didn't answer, they were shot in the legs." -
